Colonel Freckles, sired by Jewel's Leo Bars out of a daughter of Rey Jay, won the 1976 NCHA (National Cutting Horse Association) Futurity. The 1976 NCHA was considered to be one of the toughest Futurities in the history of the event as the field included such exceptional cutting horses as Freckles Playboy, Doc's Oak, Doc's Remedy, Doc's Hickory, Doc's Mahagany, Montana Doc, Wyoming Doc, Doc Athena and Smooth Herman. Colonel Lil, a daughter from his first foal crop, won the 1981 NCHA futurity. Though Colonel Freckles died in 1986, he was listed in the 1997 issues of the Quarter Horse News as: 1st leading paternal grand sire of reined cow horses 2nd leading maternal grand sire of reining horses 4th leading paternal grand sire of reining horses 14th leading maternal grand sire of reining cow horses The Colonel Freckles legend lives on thru the TS horses. |
